Description

The Instruction was born as a result of the consultations of different organisms in the Church and episcopates concerned about certain scientific advances that already represented a challenge since then. The question raised “the question of whether biomedical techniques that allow intervention in the initial phase of human life and even in the procreative process itself are in accordance with the principles of Catholic morality.” (Preamble)

The Instruction itself describes its composition:

  • Introduction: recalls the fundamental principles, of an anthropological and moral nature, necessary for an accurate assessment of these problems and for the preparation of the corresponding response.
  • First part: deals with the respect due to human beings from the first moment of their existence.
  • Second part: addresses the moral issues raised by technical interventions on human procreation.
  • Third part: it indicates some guidelines about the relationship between moral law and civil law regarding the consideration due to human embryos and fetuses depending on the legitimacy or otherwise of artificial procreation techniques.

Due to its content, it is a very pertinent document to analyze the contents of any sexual affective education program.
